Foster Carer - Disability Respite

Foster Carer - Disability Respite

Foster Carer - Disability Respite

We're looking for respite foster carers across Kent, South London and Sussex to care for children with disabilities, including Autism, Epilepsy and Global Development Delay.

As a respite foster carer, you’ll provide families with a chance to rest and unwind from the demanding role of caring for children who need a lot of support.

We’re initially looking for individuals who can commit to providing respite for 22 nights per year, generally at weekends and during school holidays, however, extra nights might be needed throughout the year.

It’s an incredibly rewarding experience where you’ll play a vital role in a family’s support system, ensuring they get the time they need to rest while providing children with fun and enriching experiences. You’ll be making a huge difference to children and families.

Please note as a respite foster carer, you’ll be caring for a child in your home and therefore will need a spare bedroom that’s available to the child.

Role Details

To be considered, you’ll need to:

  • Be over 21 years old, have the legal right to live and work in the UK and have a spare bedroom that’s available to a child.
  • Be able to commit to 22 nights per year that will generally be over weekends and some weekdays during the school holidays – however, respite will generally be planned at the start of each year, so you will have plenty of notice.
  • Have some experience caring for people with disabilities and supporting their personal care needs, whether that's in a professional or voluntary capacity, or through caring for a relative.
  • Be caring, calm, patient, reliable and resilient.
  • Be passionate about providing the best quality care to children with disabilities.

What will I receive in return?

As a respite foster parent, you’ll receive:

  • Generous nightly allowance for each child in your care.
  • Extensive support available 24/7, including a dedicated social worker.
  • Specialist training around caring for children with disabilities.
  • Opportunity to gain professional qualifications such as a CACHE Level 2 in Understanding Autism.
  • Foster carer discounts to your favourite shops, restaurants and family days out.
  • An incredibly rewarding experience making a huge difference to the lives of children with disabilities in foster care.

As you will be caring for vulnerable children in your home, you’ll need to complete a full fostering assessment. However, you’ll have a dedicated assessing social worker who will be by your side from you moment you start your journey with us and we’ll fast-track parts of your assessment wherever we can.
