Since 2007 North Lakes has helped boys to live safely, happily and facilitate opportunities to thrive! As early as 2010 we gained our first Outstanding Ofsted inspection and have added to this since with all 4 homes currently rated at Outstanding or Good.

 We are currently seeking a Full Time Permanent Support Worker to join our team who have a warm and approachable manner, and feel they can make a significant impact on a young person’s life in how they recover from early life experiences.

Role Details

Duties will include:

  • To work with the young people in a caring, nurturing and therapeutic manner and to do everything possible to develop relationships with them based on trust, confidence and understanding, and provide unconditional positive regard.
  • To promote the child’s individual programme of increasing resilience & empathy.
  • To provide a good standard of care for every child in safeguarding, health and personal hygiene.
  • To create a “safe place/space for and with every child”
  • To assist in the support and encouragement in the educational, recreational, occupational and social activities of a child.
  • To work as “part of a team” that is open and reflective for best practice of yourself and colleagues. Helping to build a strong child-focused team.
  • To use your own initiative, in line with the care plans and risk assessments, to build self-reliance and competence, knowing there are senior staff to consult with when needed.
  • To take part in sleep in duties as required on a rota basis.
  • To prepare, implement and review programmes to aid a child’s development and personalise their care plans
  • Liaise effectively with outside partners (educators, therapists, health, parents, wider family and Local Authorities etc) as necessary, including attendance at reviews, meetings and home visits where appropriate

All Applicants must have:

  • Experience with Emotional Behavioural Disorder, Social/Residential Work or Youth Work would be advantageous.
  • Flexibility in your availability is a must as the role will involve sleep in nights and shift work of 14 hours – typically 2 full days on, 2 days off. Rotating start times of 08:00, 12:00, 14:00
  • Have an understanding of the issues that face young people in care
  • Hold Residential Childcare/Families Practitioner Diploma/Children and Young People's Workforce/NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent – or be willing to work towards a required qualification
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Be willing to learn
  • Be able to work well as part of a small team
  • Be willing to undertake a DBS check at enhanced level if successful for the position


  • Comprehensive annual training for including: child development, attachment theory, PACE, Therapeutic Parenting, The Whole Brain Child Model.
  • Enrolment on NCFE CACHE level 3 diploma for residential child care.
  • Support systems for staff: individual supervision and as a group from our consultant therapist.
  • Sleep in allowance of £62.50
  • Overtime and additional holiday pay at Christmas day and New Year’s Day.
